April 14, 2010 - Remembering you today and forever, Halle B

Gone But Not Forgotten......We Love You!

From Her Family

"Together Again"

Song By Janet Jackson

There are times

When I look above and beyond

There are times when I feel your love

around me baby

Ill never forget my baby

(I'll never forget you)

When I feel that I don't belong

Draw my strength

From the words when you said

Hey it's about you

Look deeper inside you

Dream about us together again

What I want is together again

I know we'll be together again cuz

Everywhere I go

Every smile I see

I know you are there

Smilin back at me

Dancin in moonlight

I know you are free

Cuz I can see you star

Shining down on me

Good Times we'll share again

Ooh it makes me wanna dance

Say it loud and proud

Always been a true angel to me

now above

I cant wait for you to wrap your wings around me

Wrap them around me baby

Sometimes hear you whispering

No more pain

No worries will you ever see now

I'm so happy for my baby

What I'd give just to hold you close

As on earth

In heaven we will be together baby

Together again my baby

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HALLE - JULY 6th 2009

Dear Halle, Happy Sweet 16! Thinking of you today and always. We love you so much.

AP Black Mamba video: We Won't Be Quiet

2009 Austin Performance Black Mamba team video (see above).
Dedicated in memory of teammate Halle Brent who defined "mamba toughness" throughout her courageous battle with cancer. The voice you hear at the beginning and end is Halle shouting her unique "yeah". During the Lone Star Classic Tournament, which was held in Dallas on April 10-12, the Black Mamba team, prior to the beginning of each match, handed each player of each opposing team a pink "h" heart button attached to a card that briefly explained Halle's story. Halle left us just a few days later to be with the Lord on April 14, 2009. Austin Performance Volleyball recently announced that Halle's AP jersey no. 6 will be retired and that each AP team next year will wear the pink "h" heart on their jersey similar to the tribute on the Black Mamba jerseys this year.

Turn up the volume and listen to Halle shout loud!

Halle's Happenings

On Wednesday, January 7, 2009, Halle was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Tumor. The diagnosis came after about a week of experiencing headaches, blurred vision, numbness and feelings of dizziness when walking. Up until now, Halle's health history had been excellent, which is why her symptoms, even in such a short time, were of concern. She was admitted to the Dell's children's Hospital, under the care of Dr's. Timothy George and Michael Lee and Ginger Herrod. She is scheduled for a biopsy on Tuesday, January 13th, at which time, a course of treatment will be provided. We expect that the treatment will consist of radiation and chemotherapy, however the amounts and length of time has yet to be determined. We are hopeful that the information obtained from the biopsy will provide enough information for a more definitive course of action and recovery.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 13th
Today at noon, Halle is scheduled to undergo a biopsy procedure that will enable the doctors to gather tissue samples of the tumor. The method by which they do this will probably take about an hour and Halle's recovery time from this procedure is estimated at 24 to 48 hours. If the doctors are unable to obtain an adequate tissue sample using the first method, then a more intensive and invasive procedure must be used and Halle's recovery time would be longer.

Please keep Halle in your thoughts and prayers. We are so appreciative of all the support and good wishes from everyone. We are working hard to keep her 'blog' up to date and will keep you posted on Halle's progress, when she is feeling better and up for visitors. Thanks again.

TUESDAY UPDATE 4PM
The biopsy confirmed a malignant, aggressive tumor. Halle will be spending the night in ICU tonight and will be able to move back to her room tomorrow. The Doctors and treatment team will be meeting with the family tomorrow to determine Halle's course of treatment.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14th
Guess who was up at 6am walking around the ICU floor looking for something to eat for Halle??? Go Halle! She's eating well and we're just awaiting the A-O-K to move back to her regular roo
m.

WEDNESDAY 4pm UPDATE:
Halle moved back to her regular room, rm 401, from ICU this afternoon. She continues to eat well and is working daily with a physical therapist. We also met with Dr. Herrod, an Oncologist and discussed a treatment plan which will begin with Radiation about 5 days a week for 6 weeks.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 15th
This morning at 8, Halle will go in for a minor procedure to implant a stent so that she can receive her treatment more effectively. Then at 2 o'clock, she will have an appointment at the Radiology clinic where she will be receiving treatment for an exam and to meet with the doctor. This appointment is at an office out of the hospital so we are all excited that she will get to leave the hospital for a little bit. It is going to be a long day for Halle so please send her some special wishes and lots of strength for her day. There is a possibility that she will be able to go home today or tomorrow, we will keep you posted on her progress.

THURSDAY UPDATE:
The procedure went well and Halle was discharged around 1 this afternoon! Here is a photo of all her balloons and teddy bears heading out the door.

Halle is off to her first appointment with the Radiologist today for preparations for radiation therapy starting on Monday.

All in all, it proved to be a long day, Halle made it home around 4:30. She is in good spirits, still eating like a champ and is thrilled to be back in her home environment. The family enjoyed a quiet evening at home as they got settled in and made preparations for the next steps. The radiology appoinment went well and Halle will start treatment on Monday. The prescribed course of treatment will be radiation 5 days a week for the next 6 weeks.

HALLE'S FIRST NIGHT AT HOME
Halle had a great first night at home! She continues to work on getting her strength back to her legs so that she can move around by herself. She was up bright and early doing some physical therapy with her dad this morning - she was given some therapy puddy, bands and exercises to do at home until her PT is set up. Halle expects to start outpatient PT in about a week and of course her mom has enough equipment to keep her busy until PT is set up!

She is looking forward to family and friends stopping by today....as we believe having positive energy and the love of family and friends around will keep Halle's spirits up..... Halle has shown incredibly amazing strength...Can you imagine in a little over one weeks time going from playing club volleyball, Wii karaoke and games with family during the Christmas break to learning that you have a stage IV Brain Tumor named: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) and Anaplastic Astrocytoma (AA)? Having two surgeries in three days and...and not yet knowing if you have swelling from the biopsy or if the tumor is growing, and wondering when you will regain your strength in your arms and legs.

Halle is amazing!!! So please let her know when you see or post comments to her!
Thanks again everyone for all of the prayers and support. Keep them coming!!! If you have poems or bible versus or motivational inspirations to share, please do.....the family views the comments several times daily.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 17
You should have seen Halle's face light up when she saw her Granny yesterday who came in from Houston for a visit. Granny and Halle have a very special bond. Over Christmas, Halle couldn't wait for the family (who was going down to Houston on Christmas Eve - Wednesday), she had to go down early. She had her dad drive her halfway to Brenham, where she met her Granny and Auntie Nette. Two days made all the difference in the world to Halle when it came to visiting her Houston family, especially her Granny!

Halle received a card from her Granny today that was special made by her Uncle Phil in Houston. He took this picture over Christmas. Halle is standing in front of her Great Grandmother's house. Her smile is lighting up the sky as she is looking up. The inside reads: "Continue to Look Up Sweetheart, it is Going to Get Better Because God Loves You So Much" and "I Hope You Feel Much Better Soon"

McCallum Coaches Farley and Brodbeck came for a visit earlier today too!

Halle's appetite continues to thrive and she is trying to stay upbeat. Today, Halle is having more challenges with her mobility - She is experiencing more numbness on her left side than in past few days and she is requiring more help getting around the house.

SATURDAY UPDATE:
This evening around 7pm, after learning about the challenges that Halle was experiencing at home with her mobility and left sided weakness, Halle’s doctor recommended that she come to the hospital for some additional tests. They were concerned that there might be some swelling or bleeding around the biopsy site She had a CAT scan and some x-rays. The GOOD NEWS is that there is no swelling or bleeding (Thank God). However, her Sodium levels were low and there were some digestive issues, which were possible side effects of the medication.

As a precaution, Halle was readmitted to Dell Children’s Hospital, room 415 where the doctors will monitor her sodium levels as well as monitor the numbness and weakness she is having on her left side so that they can readily respond. It is likely that Halle will remain here at the hospital until Monday when she will have her first radiology appointment.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 18th
Halle got a surprise visit from her Auntie Nette and cousins Darilyn and DJ last night. They drove in from Houston last night and surprised Halle in her room at around midnight last night.

Halle rested well last night and this morning. Lab tests from last night showed an increase in her Glucose levels so she is being monitored for that as well as her sodium levels. Halle is meeting with the Physical Therapist and is doing exercises today to work on gaining strength and to learn exercises to do on her own when she gets home.

SUNDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Halle's Volleyball Club friends came for a visit, they played "Trouble," looks like Halle was winning win I took the pictures!

MONDAY, JANUARY 19th
Today was a good day for Halle. She had her first radiation treatment and it went very well with no problems. Halle was able to get a 'day pass' for today, so after her treatment she went home for a home cooked lunch and to visit with her aunt and cousins that traveled to visit her. At the hospital, Halle's blood levels and sugars are being monitored. She is still eating well! Tomorrow is day two of treatment and she may get to go back home on Wednesday - we'll keep you posted.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 20th
The Brent family extends their gratitude for your thoughts, prayers, cards, emails, balloons, and generosity of your time. Providing lunch and/or dinner allows the family more time to spend with Halle. If you would like to help with a lunch and/or dinner meal, please contact the family via email at ms.brent@sbcglobal.net.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21
Tuesday was another good (and busy) day for Halle. She had her 2nd radiation treatment with no problems and then went home afterwards for a few hours to relax and eat lunch with the family. Back at the hospital, she visited with some friends, and Shanelle spent most of the evening with her. Halle also enjoyed a professional massage from family friend Michelle who came by in the evening. After her radiation appointment, Halle will be discharged from the hospital. She is very happy to be returning home.

Special thanks to everyone who signed up on the Care Calendar - your help with providing meals for the family is appreciated more than you will ever know! (See above posting for Care Calendar details if you'd like to help the Brents with meals.)

The transportation costs for Halle's treatments and out-of-pocket expenses have become significant. If you like, contributions with gas cards or cash cards to be used for transportation and associated costs for Halle's treatments and appointments will be accepted and appreciated. You may forward the contributions to Darlene Yanez at 5904 Cary Drive, Austin, TX 78757 and she will pass your contributions along to the family upon receipt. Be sure to include your name or organization you represent.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 22
Halle sure was glad to be back home last night. She was in good spirits and had visitors from her Lady Knights friends as well as her Aunt and cousins. They laughed and ate hamburgers and watched American Idol -- it was a good visit.

Here are some pics of Halle and her good buddies - this is the crew that came over for a visit last night:

Yesterday, Halle's doctors made the decision to add Chemotherapy to her course of treatment. Halle will not have to go to the hospital for treatments, the chemotherapy is in the form of a medication that she can take at home. Her first treatment will be today. ** Please keep in mind that since this new treatment can possibly lower Halle's immune system and put her at an added risk to catch a cold, we ask that all visitors please be in good health. (We are not discouraging visitors, just make sure you are not sick or contagious!)

During this last stay at the hospital, Halle worked closely with an endocrinologist to monitor and regulate her glucose and sodium levels. The family spent time with the hospital staff learning the balance between the carbohydrates that Halle will eat and the insulin she will need to keep her blood glucose levels healthy after eating. They also learned how to check her glucose levels and give her insulin shots. For now, Halle will need to monitor her carbohydrate intake and will receive insulin shots to keep her glucose levels adequate.

Halle is a strong, remarkable young woman! Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers and thank you for all your support and well wishes.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 23RD
Today concluded a full week of radiation and the first day of chemotherapy...and a great day it was! Halle continues to be in good spirits and is working hard to regain strength in her legs. Her Radiologist gave her a pep talk and shared stories of other clients that were athletes with similar tumors that had gone thru similar experiences but were doing well.....he stressed that she must push and push herself to really work hard everyday no matter how frustrated she gets and never never give up. He told her (in a very loving way) that basically she will need to rewire/retrain her brain to do the things that she once did so easily......but stressed that just as she's done it all before, she can do it again!!! As hard as that seems, he was very motivational and inspiring....and he said to her from day one,"I will not let up, and will push and push until we get your best. " It sounded just like all the coaching that she's used to!!! Today, one of our volleyball family members posted some footage in the comments from a previous volleyball season which is even more motivational!! Check out the link: http://www.vimeo.com/2926373

God definitely has his hands in the midst of all of this...what timing!

Thank you all for reading about Halle's progress everyday and sharing so much wonderful inspiration!

Saturday, January 24th
Halle was surrounded with family, friends and great food today! She had more visitors from Houston and of course her volleyball family continues to surround her with love and their daily presence. A true demonstration of bonded sisterhood.

She is doing really well with all of her medications and sugar levels. There appears to be no new symptoms or medication side effects at this time. She is working really hard doing her PT exercises, but was really frustrated today with her physical weakness and limitations. Mom held her tight and her family encouraged her to press on and be strong. She was reminded of all of the prayers that are going up and all of the people that are behind her and supporting her. We are grateful for the comments on the blogspot to serve as a constant reminder of daily support that we can also refer too!!

Halle also had a visit from her volleyball teammate Bailey Hayes today, who brought over money collected last weekend during a fashion show that was held at McCallum High School. Bailey called the family asked if it was okay if they donated the proceeds from the silent auction at the fashion show to Halle to help with her medical expenses. Well not just stopping there, she gathered the rest of the team and they set up a table at the fashion show. The out pour of love was more than we could ever had imagined!!! We heard that the silent auction proceeds were about $200. The total presented by the girls from McCallum students and attendees that night totalled $1003 (the girls must've collected about $800, amazing!) . The students also decided to use the table cloth to send notes of encouragement to Halle. Much Love goes out to these beautiful girls and the students and staff at McCallum High for their service, support and dedication to Halle!! Go Knights!! She also made a little scrapbook of pictures from the event.

Sunday, January 25th

Another good day for Halle! No symptoms or reactions to medications.....very determined to do her physical therapy exercise reps. A very few visitors, many blessings and great food! A quiet evening with family so that she could mentally and physically prepare for a long day tomorrow. Starting at 915 in the morning she will visit with all of the "ologists".......her oncologist, neurologist, endocrinologist, and the surgeon who placed her "portacath" then in the afternoon her radiologist. Lucky for her all of the doctors are in the same building, (accept for the radiologist). Needless to say, the quiet evening was much needed. They all would like to follow up to see how she is responding to meds, how her incisions are healing, and how her blood levels are looking.

Halle hopes to start back on her school work this week. Her peer leadership teachers have volunteered to provide an hour a day, four days a week to work with her to ensure she stays on top of her school work and grades. The family will meet with the school this week and finalize an education plan for Halle. We definitely want to maintain her honor roll status that she has worked so hard to attain this year! Thanks again to the McCallum Teachers for volunteering their off periods for our baby girl! Of course there's home bound school, but they've volunteered to go above and beyond the call of duty and the family very much appreciates it! Our prayer is that Halle will return to McCallum for school as well as her day to day activities as soon as possible. As for now, she needs to be in controlled environments to avoid any types of illnesses or infections. Let's pray that Halle has a wonderful day tomorrow and that God will show her a sign so that she stays strong and encouraged.

Monday, January 26th

Halle had a very long and exhausting day. She met with all of her doctors today for follow up. She left the house at about 9am and didn't get home until about 4. In addition to her doctors, she and her family were visited by specialty/support staff and learned about soooo many resources and networks and so on and so on. Halle was asked by one of the support staff if she thought she needed someone to talk to....or a minister.....Halle said very proudly, "No thank you, I have so many people and so much support all around me at home" That was confirmation to the family that even through this devastating time in her life, Halle feels and understands all of the love, support, prayers and blessings that are coming her way. We are so grateful and thank everyone for your continued support, responses and comments on the blogspot!!!

As for progress reports, her incisions are healing and her blood counts, sodium levels and sugars or where they need to be. She was taken off of one of the medications (for sodium levels) and the dosage was dropped from another of her medications. So she will only need to take it three times a day instead of four.....for some that may seem minor, but for Halle, who went from taking no medications to taking meds all day.... that's a big deal! And she and her family are grateful for even the baby steps. She continues to work really hard on her mobility. Even after such a long day, after a nap she was asking to walk around and do her physical therapy exercises.

She will meet with one of her peer leadership teachers tomorrow for an hour to get back on her school work and then on to Radiation in the afternoon. Please continue to pray without ceasing for Halle and her family.

Tuesday, January 27th

Another quiet but productive day for Halle. She met with one of her teachers for tutoring and then on to receive radiation. Her appetite continues to thrive and she is still going above and beyond with her physical therapy exercises.

Halle's APV (Austin Performance Volleyball) teammate Grace's, big brother designed a black heart "h" logo for the AP Black Mamba girls to get embroidered onto their uniforms. Their parents (who shared the volleyball footage and beautiful post) also purchased buttons with the heart "h" on it for the girls to sell to help with Halle's expenses and to help serve as a reminder for people to keep Halle in the front of our minds and prayers. (also visit the APV website to view the heart and to see their support to Halle). On a daily basis, please continue to keep Halle and her family in your prayers.

Wednesday, January 28th

Halle did well physically today, but had some emotional moments (as to be expected). She had a few visitors which really seemed to lift her spirits. Her APV volleyball team sent lots of love and a momento with their pictures and giftcards to her favorite places to eat. They sent word that they will be thinking of her and playing hard in her honor at the first tour stop. She also visited with members from her "Young Life" church group.

The Family asks that you say this prayer for Halle:
Father, right now in the name of Jesus, we thank you for your healing powers all over Halle. Father give her joy, peace and strength thru this test of her faith. Your word says if Halle just have the faith the size of a grain of mustard seed you will do the rest. So we shall give you in advance praise for Halle's complete healing in her body, from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet she is healed and made hold. Lord we thank you for restoring everything that the devil is trying to take control of in Halle's body, mind and her spirit right now, in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. We serve notice to the devil and every demonic force that operates under his authority, that Halle shall be healed and declare the glorious works of the Lord Jesus Christ, devil you are a liar and you are defeated!.in the name of Jesus. We thank you for you are a miracle worker and what you have done for others we know you will do the same for Halle. Father bless her family ,and give them the strength that they need to know that God you are the one that is in control of the Doctors, you are the Pilot and the Doctors are only Co-Pilots. Let the family come together like never before standing on your word that says "By the stripes of Jesus Halle is healed and made whole. Lord there will be no unclean spirits come in the surroundings of Halle from this day forward in the might name of Jesus. We love you Lord and we give you all the praise and glory. We are leaning and depending on you Lord Jesus. Amen, Amen, Amen

FRIDAY, JANUARY 30th

Today marks the end of 2 full weeks of radiation treatment and 1 full week of Chemotherapy for Halle. (2 weeks of radiation down, 4 to go). Halle's days are definitely more active lately, as she's also going for tutoring at McCallum and.... rumor has it that she's also been doing a little bit of shopping... Halle continues to gain strength in her legs and continues to push through her physical therapy exercises. Tonight, after a long and busy week, Halle is relaxing with some visiting family and friends.

Halle continues to have lots of visitors that lift her spirits. Thank you to everyone who is helping Halle through prayers, visits, meals, gift cards, and comments on the blog.

Check out Halle's very own volleyball video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZUjdD_kNGo

Monday, February 2nd
Halle had a wonderful weekend! No new symptoms from the tumor and still no side effects from treatment other than fatigue. Her body is getting stronger as a result to her daily hard work and her physical exercises, but she is easily physically exhausted. Her Dr's were very pleased with her strength and progress at this point. The family stands firm in their belief that God hears all prayers and is still in the "healing business". That's their story and they are sticking to it!
Today was her sister's birthday and of course as head of the cake, ice cream and gift committee, she made sure there was plenty of each for celebrating. Happy Birthday Holliecia!

Halle was shocked and saddened this weekend by the news of the death of one of her McCallum family members, the Head Football Coach/Athletic Director. She was not going to miss the memorial service despite her full day of dr's appointments and tutoring that she attended. She sported her volleyball jersey and joined the McCallum student body as they remembered Coach Honeycutt. She was not able to stay long but stayed as long as she could. Her family was so proud of her. There was never a question...it was understood that this was important to her and she needed to attend.

Halle waited anxiously this weekend to hear how her Black Mamba team (club volleyball) did at their first tour stop this weekend. She cheered them on in spirit and kept asking if there were any emails yet.
Her granny and lil cousins visited again from Houston, which really kept her spirits up. And of course all of the really good home cooked meals kept her body nourished.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support and prayers!

Tuesday, February 3rd
Halle was able to relax a bit today before radiation....no tutoring today, as she was exhausted and really needed rest from a long day yesterday. Although despite her long day yesterday, she was walking a bit more independently and greater distances. Her endurance and strenth continues to build. Her dad will meet with her school counselor, her peer leadership teachers and the assigned home bound teacher tomorrow and Halle and the family will meet with the "make a wish" foundation. After weeks of her family trying to avoid this group, it was explained that this is a resource provided to all of Dell Children's Hospital patients with long term illness. This explanation was very much needed as the family was feeling awkward about meeting and did not want to appear as if they were " giving up". The hospital staff were able to explain to the family that the "make a wish" foundation strives to provide opportunities for children to have a positive experience and a great memory during such a devastating time in their life. They presented it as an opportunity that Halle very much deserves, especially after all that she has been through in a months time. The family agrees, she deserves a wish! So it will be interesting to see what Halle's wish will be....rumor has it she's thinking about visiting her big brother in Russia and/or she's thinking about a "My Super Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party"..... like on MTV!!!! How cool is that! She just may be able to do both, Lucky girl! We'll keep ya posted!

Also, the support staff from Dell Children's Hospital is planning to gather and meet with Halle's close friends to provide information about her diagnosis and what's going on and how they can provide support to her right now. They want to answer questions and provide as much information and support as possible. They've asked for email addresses and phone numbers to the schools and coaches. The family is eager to see how they will pull this off.....as they would actually have to reserve the Convention Center for all the friends that are concerned about Ms. Halle! (just kidding!) Well keep everyone posted on that as well.

Wednesday, February 4th
Ms. Tyra Banks....prepare yourself to meet America's "Fly-est" Top Model!!! That's right....The Make a Wish Foundation is getting to work on arrangements for Ms. Halle to meet Tyra Banks! The goal is to have this meeting occur within the next 3 to 9 months. And if for some reason that doesn't work out, then Ms. Halle will just have to go to New York and do her own fashion shoot!! (second choice).

Halle's doing well physically and mentally. Positive energy all day today! Her APV team mates brought by a video of the games from the first tour stop and she was very excited to watch it. They also dropped off the pins that they had designed for her friends and family to wear as they share her story and ask people to help pray for her. And then the Make a Wish visit. But at the end of the evening, she still asked to walk around and do her exercises! As we mentioned before the prayers and positive energy seems to keep pushing her to work harder!

Mom and dad met with school staff and confirmed her education plan. She will continue to meet with her core teachers for tutoring whenever possible during the week and will have a homebound teacher two days a week. Halle is an honor roll student and because of her GPA, she basically just needs to pass her core subjects this semester. She already has enough credits to ensure her junior status for next year. So all of her hard work this school year really paid off for her. Our prayer is that she can return to campus in August! And that she will return to her Volleyball Squad as well!

Halle's mom was also contacted by Halle's summer employment supervisor today....she sent a message..."tell Ms. Halle don't think she's getting out of working this summer". They've sent her summer job application package and are already working to ensure she will have employment this summer.

Halle has a lymphatic massage scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday). She will be pampered at the Spa for a while then on to her Radiation Treatment.

So you see......GOD IS GOOD....ALL THE TIME and ALL THE TIME....GOD IS GOOD! We are grateful for the blessings he has already bestored upon us!

Friday, February 6th

So many wonderful things to report from yesterday. First off, Halle's mom got a pleasant surprise first thing in the morning when she received a text message from Halle! Yes, folks, this mother of a teenager is SO HAPPY to be getting text messages from her daughter and ENCOURAGING her to text! We are thrilled that Halle's little thumbs and fingers are getting stronger and stronger - go Halle go!

Halle also went for a facial and massage at Vickmay's Spa. Her skin was glowing and she really enjoyed being pampered! Halle also heard from Chef Coi of Hell's Kitchen -- it seems that there may be a gourmet meal in her future... the pampering continues!

Halle's buttons are a HUGE hit! From Georgetown, TX to Frost Elementary in Austin you can see the support and love that everyone has for Halle. Check out the photos on the sidebar to the right.

Later that evening, Halle was hanging out with Shanel - a perfect way to end a great day!

Saturday, February 7th
Guess who was spotted out at FuddRuckers Friday night. That's right...Halle asked her family if they could go to FuddRuckers...and she said it would be her treat! It was her first time out excluding some type of appointment.....and accept for family members being over protective and holding on to her......there were no walking aides! Of course Halle was out like a light the minute she walked into the house and her head hit the pillow. She slept straight through the night til 7am in the morning. Considering all of the medication side affects that usually get her up through the night or have her up at 5am ready for breakfast.....the family was grateful and are ready to take her out again!

Her day today went well also. She had her second day of PT utilizing the family's workout studio. For those of you that are not familiar with this family.....everyone works out....they have their own workout studio in the garage. So it was only a matter of time before Halle would be doing "hard time". Rumor has it there was a bet out on who would get her out there first...mom or dad? Well Dad got her out ther first, but it was only because mom fell asleep before PT!

Halle had family visiting from Houston. Her big sister came in from Grambling University for the weekend. Great food continues to be delivered and her texting continues! The buttons continue to be in high demand and the blessings and prayers continue to pour in!

Monday, February 9th
Guess what friends and family?! Tyra Banks could not wait 3 months to see America's "Fly--est" Top Model! She has invited Halle and her family to New York this Friday for a meet and greet and for a taping of her show! That's right...Halle will be flying out to New York City to meet Tyra Banks this weekend! The "Make a Wish" Foundation is working on a departure party for Wednesday night @ the Cheesecake Factory at the Arboretum for Halle and her family.
Halle asked us to solicit input on the blogspot as to places to visit while in New York. They will leave Thursday, visit the Tyra show on Friday and will have some time Saturday and Sunday for touring. Of course her Dr's would like for her to be back for radiation on Monday.

Halle's health continues to improve. She walked in and out of her radiation appointment today. The medical staff and her family were so proud of her. She also walked to the snack area to get a snack while visiting her oncologist and will probably get out a little bit more to do some shopping for her big trip!

The "h" pins/buttons continue to be in high demand in Austin, Georgetown and Round Rock and have now spread to Houston! A second order has been placed due to the high demand. Here are some folks in Houston wearing them proudly:

All and all the family is grateful for all of the blessings ....God is Good....All the time....All the time...God is Good! Thanks again everyone for all of your prayers and support! Please keep Halle and her family in your prayers as they travel to New York! And of course continue to "believe" for a complete healing for Halle!

Wednesday, February 11th

Halle had a great day! It started off a little scary for her as she woke up with a headache. She was very nervous as you could imagine, because this was the very first symptom of the tumor. She was given medication and away went the headache. The Dr. stated that this could be a result of her coming off of one of the medications. We monitored and prayed all day...and of course no more pain.

Halle is very excited about her trip! She spent the rest of the day preparing for her big weekend. She got her brows waxed and did a little shopping! She will visit the hair salon in the morning and report for Radiation in the afternoon. Her departure party starts at 6pm @ the Cheesecake Factory in the Arboretum. There she will get her itinerary for the weekend.

Halle's Departure Party!

The family is asking for friends and family to take our prayers to the next level.....to exercise faith and start to praise and give thanks to God for Halle's healing....to believe with us for her healing. We've asked...now it's time to step further out on faith and believe and act like Halle will be healed! So as you're being asked about the "lil h" on the button...tell everyone that it's a reminder for us to Thank God for what he's already done and what's to come in healing our little Halle! And that we ask them to praise and believe with us! Please do continue to pray for strength through this journey...and that she stays encouraged as she accepts this challenge of her faith.
Please pray for Halle and her family as they travel to New York to see Halle's wish granted!

Thursday, February 12th
The AP Volleyball embroidered jerseys are in! They are so very beautiful and look fantastic! We'll be sending photos soon from the Mambas first game with everyone wearing them. For now, here's a sneak peak:

This afternoon, the Brent family arrived safely in New York City, they are staying in beautiful accomodations right in the heart of the city. Halle is very excited about her big day on Friday!

Monday, February 16th
Wishes do come true!!! Hat’s off to the “Make a Wish Foundation” they really do make wishes come true!

What an AMAZING WEEKEND for Ms. Halle and family! From start to finish God’s blessings continued to surround Halle and family! The first day of travel was very long and tiring for Halle.

Family started to wonder if they were too excited and the trip would actually be too much for Halle. However, once the Limo arrived at the airport and upon checking into a fabulous hotel, halle seem to sprout like a watered plant. Friday morning was the day that the wish was set to come true.

The family arrived at the Chelsea Studio where there was a line around the corner of guests waiting to enter “The Tyra Banks Show”….The VIP of the morning was driven around to another entry and was embraced by what seemed like friends and family. Associate producers, security, stage managers, greeters, hair stylists, make up artists..……you name it they were all present to greet Halle. She and her family were escorted to the “green room” where more visitors seemed to stop in, welcoming her and ensuring she was being cared for.

Down the same hall way, were the guests of the day’s show. Of course they started to come by to see who the celebrity with all the staff visitors, in the other green room.
The other guests were the contestants of the reality show “True Beauty” the new reality show produced by Ms. Trya Banks and Ashton Kucher. As they stopped in to see and meet Halle, they became fans as well! Taking pictures, meeting and greeting and in a very short time……..ASKING FOR HALLE’S BUTTONS!! Yes….the buttons were a hit in New York and were worn on the Tyra Banks show by some of the contestants of the reality show!!

After meeting and greeting, Halle was escorted to “hair” and “make up” Our little Diva received a makeover after which it was time for the show…..she and her family were escorted to tables up front. After the taping of the show, Halle was esorted on stage to chat and take pictures with Tyra….she met and received a big hug from Vanessa Minnillo, one of the reality show judges. And said hello to Nole…the judge from America’s Next Top Model…… and then to Tyra’s private dressing room….According to Tyra’s staff, this was a very rare happening….even her staff were in awe….In the dressing room, Tyra chatted with Halle and family as if they’d known each other for years….She answered questions for Halle and chatted about her BFF and God children….before making it to the dressing room, Tyra asked Halle “how tall are you?” and after answering Halle’s first question was “how tall are you?’ (5”9 and 5”10) Tyra gave Halle a gift bag and autographed a pillow with her picture on it……. it was truly a wish come true, an amazing time for Halle and her family!

Shopping was attempted afterwards, but it was a bit more than Halle’s little body could handle, so back to the room for a nice massage and rest for what turned out to be another great day in the Big Apple. Halle and her family saw “Shrek” the musical on Broadway on Saturday! And guess who was in the row in front of Halle and family…..Vanessa Williams and family!! How cool is that?! After the show, Halle had dinner, visited Time Square and then back to the hotel.

Halle proved this weekend that she is still just as tough as nails!!! She was determined to stay strong and see what she could of New York! Her spirit continued to say "let’s go", but her body was physically exhausted…..mom and dad had to pull rank and bring her in. She still had another long day of travel ahead. Of course not without reassuring Halle that they would return to the Big Apple to finish up shopping and sight seeing!

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers and belief for Halle's healing and a safe trip!

Thursday, February 19th

This week has presented some challenges for Halle. She has had some sickness to her stomach and some discomfort to her joints. She continues to work on her physical therapy exercises with her family and will start with a physical therapist next week. She will meet with her homebound teacher today, and then twice a week starting next week.

Her dad has purchased a juicer with tons of veggies and fruits to ensure her body gets all the nutrients needed to withstand the physical challenges. And her Black Mamba team mates dropped by for a visit which helped to lift her spirits! Prayers for comfort and belief in healing is requested.

Saturday, February 21st

Well...Halle is not really feeling the "juicing" that her family was so excited about...:) but she is doing much better with the discomfort to her tummy no new sudden illness in the last two days. Still working hard to strengthen her body and keep her spirits up. Her granny and some of her cousins (more like aunts) visited from Houston. Drove all the way from Houston for a day trip to bring her blessings and an awesome prayer which really lifted her spirits. Later yesterday evening her auntie and cousins arrived in town for a cheerleading competition and of course to check on her. Halle had dinner with the cheerleading team,Elite Saints All Stars, at Ryan's Restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the company and encouragement from the National Champions from Houston. Halles going to try and attend part of the competition tomorrow to show support to her cousin Darrilyn.

Tuesday, February 24
Needless to say it was a busy and very fun weekend. Halle spent time with her family and was able to attend the Cheer Competition on Sunday. Afterwards she had enough energy to visit her auntie and cousin Imani.
This week things are picking up and getting busier for Halle if you can imagine. In addition to her daily radiation and weekly doctor's visits, she will do 2 days a week of homebound schooling and 2 days a week of Physical Therapy at the hospital.
Support continues to pour in for Halle and her family! The "halle" buttons are being sighted all over town and on TV and news clips!
She received a big box full of Valentine's Day cards from McCallum High School family. She will be featured in the McKnightly Newspaper this Friday and there seems to be several benefit fundraisers scheduled this week.
As for her health, she continues to have physical challenges on her left side. Despite the challenges, she continues to press on and remain strong. She gets a little frustrated at times that her physical body seems to not be able to keep up with the strength of her will. She has not had anymore discomfort to her stomach.
Good Luck and much love to her APV volleyball family who are headed to Dallas for Tour Stop # 2 this weekend!
The family Thanks everyone for continued support and prayers!
Wednesday, February 25th
A Day of Praise!!
"Dear God Today we choose to think about all the blessings and come before you with humble hearts to say "Thank You"! We Thank You for smiling down on Halle today and everyday! We know that as praise go up, blessings will continue to come down! So today, and everyday we Acknowledge you and give you the praise as you arrange things in Halle's favor during this Journey of Faith!"
Halle's spirits were very much up today! She worked out at home and then decided to return to the gym to wish her APV Volleyball Club Good Luck for a big tournament this weekend! She was greeted by her team and coach with opened arms! It was really good to see her back in her element, laughing and talking with her team mates.
Another example of how blessings are being deposited and things are falling in place for Halle......As she and her parents were preparing to leave for the gym the phone rang....and it was someone from Fox 7 sports, stating that they heard about her and wanted to tell her story....they were inquiring about her schedule and when they could visit.....look at how God works!!! So they sent out a camera crew to the practice at the gym. Amazing!!! We are still in awe at the timing of the phone call.
Buttons were shipped to Seattle today! They've gone out to California, Florida, New York, and of course all over Texas!! Daily stories of how the little button and Halle's spirit continues to bring people together and touch people's lives.
Healthwise, no recent discomfort to her stomach and the medicine of movement seems to be working in her favor on her joints. She got some tips in physical therapy on things to do that will help minimize the joint discomfort.
So Family and Friends, as you put on your buttons....also put on an "attitude of praise" for continued blessings for Halle and her family!
Monday, March 2nd
Halle had a great weekend! She had a good report from her doctor on Friday. She will finish her first round of radiation on Wednesday and has one final week of chemotherpy as well. When she visits the doctor next week, another MRI will be ordered to re-evaluate the status of the tumor. Halle will have four weeks off of radiation and chemo and then will start another round, regardless of the outcome of the MRI.
Her spirits have been up. She has regained some strength in her body and her sense of humor seems to be returning. She is grateful for all of the support that she continues to recieve.
She and her family eagerly awaits to hear from Fox 7 Sports regarding her story. They followed her around last week and her family shared her story. What we know right now is that the piece will air on a Tuesday. They will notify the family and the info will be posted on the blog. Halle and her family would like to Thank everyone for the out pour of prayer and support!
Monday, March 9th
Halle had a great week and an awesome weekend! She hung outside and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine this weekend with her cousins. It was such a joy to see her laughing and talking and catching up on all the happenings....but even a greater joy to just see her enjoying the fresh air outside. Her appointments last week went really well. She had a little bit of discomfort to her stomach last week but it was manageable. She will get two weeks off from two of her Doctor visits and will do an MRI in two weeks. She will add Occupational Therapy to her shedule this week. So she will be doing school with the homebound teacher twice a week, Physical Therapy twice a week and Occupational Therapy once a week. She remains in good spirits and is looking forward to having her Houston Family visit during Spring Break.
Halle's story is due to air on Fox 7, in Austin tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10th @ 5:45pm and 9:50pm. We hope to have a link or footage of the video immediately after for family and friends that are not in Austin.

Tuesday, March 10th
Halle's story aired tonight on FOX 7!
Click here to see the story and to watch the video. FOX even put a link to Halle's web page right on their website!

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and well wishes. Halle counts on you to write to her on her blog. Don't forget to send her comments - we read them to her everyday!

Thursday, March 12th
Halle's spirits are up, smiling alot and feeling good despite the minor episodes of discomfort to her stomach. She continues to work on stregthening her left side by doing physical therapy exercise daily. Halle's definitely ready for a Spring Break where she will only have to attend physical therapy. NO SCHOOL or DRS. APPOINTMENTS!!! She actually started trying to talk her way out of her PT appointment today but was reminded how hard she had to work after she took a break from her PT during her NYC trip.

Halle and her family were pleased with the story that aired on FOX 7 and received a tremendous outpouring of support - thank you!

Be sure to look at the new slideshows that were added!

Sunday, March 15th
Prayers, Prayers, Prayers for Halle as she will have her MRI that was scheduled for later in the week today. The family contacted her doctors this morning after Halle had said that she had been feeling very 'heavy' on her left side and was having more difficulty with movement.

Halle and her family went to Dell Children's this afternoon where Halle will have her MRI and at an overnight stay so that her doctors can fully assess her and address the concerns of heaviness on her left side. Halle is in room 403.

Monday, March 16th
As promised, Halle is on her way home from Dell Children's this morning. The doctors were able to give Halle a full check up and we will have a status update for you soon. She is very happy to be going home because her granny and auntie and nieces, nephews and cousins all came to Austin for their spring breaks to visit her.
Now is the time to Trust
He may not come when we want, but what we know is his timing is always perfect. God has promised to supply all of our needs. Delays in God's answer may not be a denial, this may not be the perfect time....and his timing is always perfect! (WFR)
The results of Halle's MRI were very disappointing to Halle and her family. The treatment did not produce the outcome expected. The tumor continues to prey affecting her left side and some other areas of her body. Of course, devastated by the news, Halle just wanted to get home to spend time with her family. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR HALLE AND HER FAMILY.
Thursday, March 19th
Halle has had a wonderful week, despite the disappointing news she received. After about a day of disappointment, Halle and her family strapped up their boots, dusted off their knees and got back into battle. She has surrounded herself with family and continues to press forward. Within a day's time and with a few phone calls, the family started to tap into other resources and inquiries and recieved some uplifting news. Amazingly, their spirits are lifted and their attitudes are positive.
Halle was sadden to learn today that one of her Mamba teammates world seemed to have changed just as rapidly as hers and in a very similar fashion, unexpected brain tumors (her teammate's father).
Please join Halle and the family as they lift her teammate, Maggie and her family up in prayer.
Friday, March 20th
Today was one of the longest most challenging days for Halle. Over night, in just a matter of hours, her health took an unexpected turn. The tumor has taken strength from her body and is presenting challenges with swallowing and talking. She has around the clock access to medical support and today started receiving home visits from a nurse. The family ask that you please continue to pray for comfort and healing for Halle and her family.
Saturday, March 21st
Another physically and mentally challenging day for Halle. Though she is unable to verbally communicate and her movement is minimal, she and her family are determined, have faith and are moving forward in prayer. Her aunts, uncles and cousins are in town to surround her with love, support and prayers and ask that you continue to pray for her.
Sunday March 29th
An incredibly challenging week for Halle and her family. Everyday has presented a new challenge, yet Halle and her family continues to press on. She has been surrounded by family and friends from out of town. Her big brother visited from Italy, her big sister was in town from Grambling University and other relatives and friends visited from near and far.
Words cannot express how much the family appreciates all of the love and support that they continue to receive. Please continue to pray for Halle and her family.
Wednesday, April 1st
Halle is back at Dell Children's Medical Center for medication maintenance. She was checked in for observation after experiencing difficulties with moving her mouth and some rattling sounds in her chest. We are happy to report that she is stable and resting comfortably, but will remain in the hospital under observtion.
Prior to being admitted to the hospital, Halle received a visit from her and her granny's Pastor from Houston yesterday morning. Pastor Hamilton prayed with Halle and encouraged her to continue her fight and have faith that God will use her to help other young people.
While in the hospital, Halle's family received some encouraging news regarding medication just approved for use of Halle's particular tumor yesterday by the FDA. The family is scheduled for a phone conference with the Chief Neurologist of the National Cancer Institute on tomorrow. The family is asking for continued prayers and praise that God will continue to bless Halle and her family.

Friday, April 3rd
Halle is back home as of noon today. She was ready to go home yesterday, so, needless to say, she is in good spirits! Later today we will be posting some additional information about the family's phone conference with the Chief Neurologist, Dr. Fine, at the National Cancer Institute and the new medication. Thank you for all your blessings and prayers - God is listening!
Halle is home and resting well tonight. She received her first dose of Avastin (bevacizumab). Avastin is the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved therapy designed to destroy the blood vessels that carry vital nutrients to the tumor . Avastin has been used in combination with other chemotherapies to treat other cancers (breast, lung), and was just this week approved to treat gliobastomas, the kind of tumor that Halle has.
The timing of this information from the FDA, Halle's visit to the hospital and the conference call with Dr. Howard Fine of the National Cancer Institute is not all a coincidence. We believe that God hears and answers prayers. While this medication is not a "cure" for cancer, it has been proven to stop the progression of and shrink Halle's type of tumor. As with any medication, there are risk and possible side effects, but results are seen relatively quickly. Please join us as we give praise to God and believe that this tumor will be stopped from causing any further harm to Halle.
Wednesday, April 8th
Halle had a good day yesterday. It was her mother's birthday! She woke up and reported feeling pretty good. Halle has not had any new symptoms since leaving the hospital. She is concerned at times about her hearing, but she and her family continues to pray and have claimed victory in this battle. She was blessed to have received information regarding a communication system. She tested the system yesterday and is hopeful to receive her own equipment by next week. She will use funds raised to acquire the equipment immediately. She will be able to borrow a machine until her's is delivered. It's called the "Erica". Its a computer that she can communicate, surf the net, answer the phone, check emails etc, just by using her eyes. The system will be used on an episode of CSI this thursday if you'd like to see how neat it is and how it works! The family is hopeful that Halle will start back communicating with all of her friends that she misses so much. She continues to read the blog entries and we are hopeful that she will at least start to email her friends soon! Please continue to pray for Halle and her family. And also give Praise to God for his continued blessings!

II Timothy 4:6-8
For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Our lord and savior called His beloved Halle home today. She is now at peace and resting in the bosom of the savior. For though there is sorrow in our hearts and we are missing her dearly, we know that God's will has been done. Continue to pray and uplift the Brent Family in prayer.

Information regarding arrangements will be posted as soon as they are completed.
The week prior to Halle's passing was a hopeful but challenging week. Halle and her family were very excited about getting the new communication system, and was actually on the way to the hospital to see the speech pathologist for paper work for the system. However, her trip turned out to Emergency Room instead. She started to experience difficulty breathing on the way to the hospital.
Halle was in good spirits on Easter Sunday! She was surrounded by friends and family as you could imagine. She was looking forward to a busy week this week, her weekly massage a Dr's appointment to get her second dose of the new medication and her new communication system.
